Wakefield Basketball Association

Intramural

The Intramural program is a town based program. All players participating in the Intramural program are selected to be on a team after an evaluation is held with the primary purpose of attempting to have balanced teams where everyone can learn to play the game of basketball and also enjoy healthy competition regardless of skill level.

The season generally runs from late October or Early November through the end of February or early March. Divisions are based on your child's grade and include four divisions; 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, and 7th/8th grade.  A player in each division can generally expect the following;

1st/2nd grade: One 90 minute session per weekend (8-10 in total) including a 45 minute practice followed by a 45 minute game. There are no practices during the week, and no playoffs.

3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade: One game per weekend and one practice per week with 8-10 games in total. There will be a playoff following the regular season and all teams make the playoffs.

7th and 8th grade: One game per weekend with 8-10 games in total. Practices will be made available based on gym availability only. There will be a playoff following the regular season and all teams make the playoffs.

In the 7th/8th grade girls division the WBA teams up with Stoneham basketball and teams consist of both Wakefield and Stoneham players.

Travel

Wakefield Travel Basketball program is a division of the Wakefield Basketball Association. The WBA Travel Program provides up to two teams by grade for boys and girls grades 5-8, with the exception of 4th grade for which there is one team.

All teams will participate in a league schedule as well as play in at least two weekend tournaments during the season. The games and tournaments are predominantly during the weekends and some on holiday weekends. The travel teams will play other towns generally in northeastern Massachusetts and southern NH (in general no more than an hour from Wakefield). The travel teams will also practice twice per week during the season.

Any player signing up for travel is expected to make a serious commitment to the season which takes priority over other sports and voluntary activities.

The WBA strongly encourages all travel players to play in the intramural program.
